Manuscript Evaluation
Get your manuscript evaluated by a professional editor. A manuscript evaluation is a high-level assessment that gives you invaluable feedback on what is working well in your manuscript and why, what your manuscript needs to go to the next level, and how best to arrive there.
What’s included
Manuscript evaluation includes:
a one-hour introduction with your editor
a detailed letter with the editor’s findings
a one-hour debrief that enables you to ask questions after you have finished reviewing the feedback.
Manuscript evaluation clients are also eligible for a 10% discount on any one of Yellow Ink’s other services if booked within the year following
Manuscript evaluations can take between 2-3 weeks to complete depending on the length of your project and your place in the queue.
Differences in Manuscript Review vs Evaluation
Manuscript evaluations are less involved than reviews. Typically, the editor will do less mark-ups in the manuscript and will give an overall impression of the manuscript. The letter detailing recommendations and strengths will be shorter.
Manuscript reviews are more involved and will merit your editor reading through your manuscript more than once and writing a more detailed cover letter that cites specifics in the manuscript (with page numbers). Your editor may also mark up your copy to show areas they reference in the letter and final consultation chat.
When to get a Manuscript Evaluation
Manuscript evaluations are great for writers who have any of the following conditions related to their writing:
You have a great start but aren’t sure where to go next
The manuscript feels stuck
You have a completed draft and need to do heavy edits but want to make sure you cut the right wire
It’s a SSFD that needs more reworking before heavier involvement
You feel you might need to make structural and foundational changes to the book
Manuscript Evaluation Rates
Manuscript evaluation rates average between $0.02 and $0.03 per word. The initial $65 consultation fee will go toward whatever services you book.
