Developmental Editing
Your book is like a house. You don’t want to paint the drywall (copyedit or line edit) before you know that wall is going to even remain in the place you put it. With developmental editing, you get the foundation nailed down. From inception to completion, work with a developmental editor at any stage in the process. Your DE will help you outline and organize and refine focus for a concept or will taken an existing manuscript or work in progress and help you nail down the big picture items in your manuscript like structure, style, organization, plot lines, etc.
Line Editing
Prose is everything in elevating a good plot to a mind-blowing work of resonant fiction or creative nonfiction. Are you shifting voices? Is the POV consistent? Does the word choice work for the character or the theme? Does the word choice elevate the book’s theme? And what about character voices—do they leap off the page as unique and clearly-distinct individuals, or do they muddle together? Your line editor will help illuminate the ways you can elevate the language of your manuscript.
Copy Editing
A clean manuscript makes all of the difference in the success of your publication. Your copy editor will comb through your manuscript and clean up technical issues to get your manuscript, essay, query letter, book proposal, or other document free of technical errors while still preserving your style and voice as your manuscript is prepped for publication.
Proofreading
Proofreading takes place after your book is laid out. At this point, your manuscript is near perfect and it’s almost ready for publication. Your proofreader creates a style sheet and reviews your manuscript for any lingering minor errors, formatting issues (widows, orphans, stacks, etc.) and helps you truly perfect your book for publication.
Book Formatting
It can be obvious when you’re independently publishing your book, but it doesn’t have to be. Formatting can take time to get right especially when it’s not your forte. Have a professional designer lay out your book for print and digital production.
Writing Through Grief & Trauma
One hour ($55) or half hour ($30) session with trauma-informed writer Amy Delcambre. Talk to a compassionate and experienced author, editor, and publisher who used writing to heal grief and trauma about what is keeping you stuck in suffering as you are guided to heal through your own words. Resources for moving forward are provided.
