And then, my husband died at 34. I was 36-years-old, and a suddenly single mother to three girls under the age of 6. And all I could think was that we had waited…why had we waited? Why did we wait to travel? Why did we wait to save to do the things we were so excited to do together? He was gone!
I realized right away I’d been doing it all wrong. Life was meant to be lived in the moment. The cake was meant to be eaten, the champagne uncorked, the “I love yous” shouted from the rooftops, the submissions in the email, whatever…I knew I had to live, and so I did. I learned how to live with a sense of true purpose and with genuine esteem. I live in a near constant state of bliss consciousness, and it’s amazing.
What’s even more amazing is that like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz always had the ability to return home to Kansas, I have always had what I needed inside of me that was necessary for me to come home within myself, and so, here I am. I have traveled into the self and have returned with a deep and resonant understanding of the sacred mysteries.
I am more than a writer—I am an entertainer. I am also a storyteller, and I am a survivor of a great many things. My highest purpose is you—it is to deliver the message to you that you are worthy. You were always worthy. You’re enough, and you’ve always been enough, and if you want to discover your true self and your highest potential and to believe in yourself with unflappable conviction as I do, then I encourage you to click here to view the courses that I offer and to sign up to receive my email newsletter and my Susbstack @amysdwrites if you are interested.
There is always light in the dark.
Lumos, A Healing Arts Collaborative, was born from my 85 Days to Manifest Destiny project. I had no idea what would happen only that I’d spent my whole life dreaming of something bigger. I often felt like I had a wild animal trapped inside of me, and I was desperate to set it free (by the way, don’t tell people this—they will look at you like you’re crazy while pretending to understand even though they really, clearly do not).
That wild animal was my authentic self, the self I’d repressed with limiting beliefs, conditioning, and a fear-driven, insecure lack mindset. Selfish and emotionally immature in a lot of ways, I found myself in a relentless torpor of anxiety, a fraud just waiting to be found out. I was stuck in my own thoughts, not advancing or taking professional opportunities that felt too risky because I thought I wasn’t enough. And because I thought that—I wasn’t. I was underpaid because I didn’t believe in my value. Basically, I was a cog in the machine just like the majority.
But I was desperate to let that wild, racing, pulsing passionate feral thing, whatever she was have the chance to truly live.
